Stilted houses at Kampong Phluk, situated within the floodplains of the Tonle Sap lake.
During the dry season the water levels in the lake are low and the village is situated on dry ground. During the wet season the water levels in the lake rise and the villages become flooded. This photo is taken during the dry season. This house has two levels. The storage level situated half-way up the stilts will become flooded in the wet season, but allows for increased room in the actual living area (at the top of the stilts) during the dry season. During the wet season, boats are the only means of transport around the villages.
