Flamingos - Jurong Bird Park, Singapore (1)
May 6th 2010 09:11
The flamingos at Jurong Bird Park.
Did you know that when young flamingos hatch they are grey coloured, but change their colouring to range from light pink to bright red as adults.
This colouring is due to aqueous bacteria and beta carotene obtained from their food supply. A well-fed, healthy flamingo is more vibrantly coloured and thus a more desirable mate.
This and much more information on flamingos can be found at this wikipedia site.
