Native Bee on a Coriander

January 13th 2008 12:07
We call them "native bees" but whether they are or not I do not know. They are small, and they like to hover about the flowers when they are open. To give you some idea of the size, a coriander flower is only about 10 to 13 mm across.
For the photogaphically interested, all my pictures are taken with a Fuji Fine Pix S602Z. These were taken using close up macro mode.

They are actually flies. Bees have four wings (2 pairs) , bees can not hover whereas flies can. Flies also have short antennae while bees have elbowed antennae. And bees are covered in hair while flies tend to not be.

Great photo!!
